26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” Genesis 1:26
Our interest perks up when we come to this verse. It’s about us. Volumes have been writen about “making mankind in our image.” What’s significant is He never said that about the birds, fish, animals, heavens, waters, or land. We are made in His image. We are capable of thinking, feeling, talking, singing, laughing, crying, reasoning, and a whole range of emotions. Animals, fish, and birds do not have such capabilities. Thankfully we are quite different than those in the animal kingdom. To that note, God also gave mankind the ability to rule over the animal kingdom. Again, we’re not equal to them, but, as they say, a cut above.
However, we are still created beings. That really should give us great comfort because we don’t have to solve all the world’s problems nor do we have the capacity to do that. It’s not in our job description.
Take a few minute today to acknowledge that God is in control. We don’t have to bear burdens we were never meant to bear, whether it is personal, family, or world affairs.
