24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:24-25
Of course God didn’t stop at creating fish and birds. Next He created the animal kingdom, and they were all “according to their kind.” God created mankind separately from animals. In other words, we didn’t evolve from the animal kingdom. As we will see in the next few verses, we were created in God’s image. The animal kingdom has its role in the overall ecosystem, and it will never cross over into the human domain. From animals we get food and clothing, and occasional companionship and protection when we use them as pets.
We’re on creation’s fifth day, and we’re still just unpacking God’s riches for mankind. Don’t you just marvel at God’s grace in all of creation?
