Accountability

9 Their mouths lay claim to heaven, and their tongues take possession of the earth.
10 Therefore their people turn to them and drink up waters in abundance.
11 They say, “How would God know? Does the Most High know anything?” Psalm 73:9-11

The “Health and Prosperity” Gospel people exist throughout the world. They have followers who hang on their every word and send in their hard-earned dollars to keep these shysters in their mansions and high society benefits. Of course these false gospel practitioners do it all “for the sake of the ministry,” whatever that means to them at the time. They twist Biblical text to suit their needs, and when questioned about their lavish lifestyles, they tell others to call down curses against the “Anointed,” i.e., them.

When I first became a Christian I read a piece of literature from Last Days Ministries – the ministry that singer Keith Green launched. One line in one of the pamphlets stuck with me. Keith’s wife, Melody, stated that they realize that they are accountable to God for every penny that is donated to them.

What a stark contrast between the philosophies of that ministry and that of the Health and Wealth preachers.

We too should consider how our time and resources are being spent.

Are we squeezing every possible moment out of life or just going through the motions each day? This is not at all meant to discourage those who are fighting the fight and winning the race, but to remind us slackers of our accountability to God.
