As We Are

17 Cain made love to his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch. Genesis 4:17

Cain went on to life as usual, but his life couldn’t have been normal. God had just booted him from His presence. There were now obviously many more people on earth than just Cain and his parents. So Cain started a family and began building a city. What else was he going to do? What else could he do? Still, though, he had a mark on him and everyone who saw him, saw the mark. We don’t hear much more about Cain from this point forward and his name is synonymous with murder and death. Life could have been so much different. We’ll never know. He took a bad wrong turn and paid dearly for it.

It’s actually the story of many in the Old Testament. Their momentary fits of rage, lust, and passion would cause them great agony, pain, and sorrow.

It’s also the story of many reading this. You’ve taken wrong turns but don’t believe you can ever recover. The Lord is ready and able to save. He wants to restore you just as you are. You don’t need to clean up to come to Him. You don’t even need to say fancy words or prayers. He wants us to come as we are.
