Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction. Psalm 1:4-6
The contrast between the wicked and the righteous is distinct. Even though there are times when it appears that the wicked are prospering and “getting away with murder,” Scripture clearly tells us that what we see is fleeting and there will be a judgment to come. We lose sight of that.
In fact, I think it’s very difficult to glimpse the eternal while we’re still on Earth. To start, we can’t see that which we’ve been promised. We know it’s true but we can’t see it.
Secondly, many things in life don’t seem right or just or fair. As mentioned above, we see the wicked prospering and wonder what’s taking God so long to judge them!
It’s important that we maintain a path “on the straight and narrow” in our Christian walk lest we become envious and discouraged by the temporal. The straight and narrow in this case are the disciplines and actions we’ve been practicing for a long time. They are the time-honored and God-honoring principles that have brought us this far.
God will bring judgment in due time, but until then we need to continue doing the things that please and honor Him.
