Forgiving and Fair

8 Lord our God, you answered them; you were to Israel a forgiving God, though you punished their misdeeds.
9 Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his holy mountain, for the Lord our God is holy.

God is fair. He is just. Yes, He forgives but the actions people take are not without consequences.

These last few verses have ended with “for the Lord our God is holy.” I think we’ll begin to see this more and more as we progress towards the end. If we’re not careful we could overlook this phrase.

The Psalmist is making a key point about the very character of God: His holiness demands justice and fairness.

We of course could never fully understand forgiveness and justice. We’re grateful that He’s forgiven us, but it’s a little trickier when we have to forgive someone else.

Take some time throughout the day today to consider His holiness and forgiveness. How has it changed the way you think about forgiveness and forgiving others?

  1. “…and forgive us our debts, AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTOR’S!” Seems that changes the perspective. 🙂
