Giving and Sacrifice

7 “Listen, my people, and I will speak;
I will testify against you, Israel:
I am God, your God.
8 I bring no charges against you concerning your sacrifices
or concerning your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.
9 I have no need of a bull from your stall
or of goats from your pens,
10 for every animal of the forest is mine,
and the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know every bird in the mountains,
and the insects in the fields are mine.
12 If I were hungry I would not tell you,
for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls
or drink the blood of goats? Psalm 50:7-13

In some very frank words, God is telling the nation of Israel that He really doesn’t need their sacrifices and offerings because He owns it all. So then, why do it? Simple. Because WE need to do it.

For most people giving and sacrifice does not come naturally. We like to keep what we have. We’re stingy that way. He’s teaching an important lesson in giving, one that we ought to have learned by now.

  • He funds worldwide missions projects through us.
  • He funds each church through us.
  • The church reaches out to minister to others through us.

If we’re not giving regularly and consistently to the Church, we are missing out in what God is doing around the world. And there is a great big exciting world beyond our borders. The Holy Spirit continues to sweep across Asia, Africa, and South America.

Hallelujah!
