No Condemnation

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1-4

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus because we have been set free from the law of sin. I’m not sure we fully grasp the importance of those words for if we did, the guilt and weight of sin we often carry around would be lifted.

I’ve said this earlier but it bears repeating: we are free from the law of sin. What that means to each of us is different but the general point should be made: sin does not have mastery over us anymore now that we are in Christ Jesus.

Perhaps the words of a Chuck Girard song may help free you:

Lay your burden down, lay your burden down
Take your troubled soul, your tired mind
And lay your burden down
Lay your burden down, get your feet on solid ground
Take your worries to the foot of the cross, and lay your burden down

Lay your burden down, lay your burden down
Take your weary life, your heavy load, and lay your burden down
Lay your burden down, get your feet on solid ground
Take your failures to the foot of the cross, and lay your burden down

(Lay your burden down)
You’ve been tryin’ hard to make it all alone
Tryin’ hard to make it on your own
And the strength you once were feelin’, isn’t there no more
And you think the wrong you’ve done, is just too much to be forgiven
But you know that isn’t true
Just lay your burden down, He has Forgiven you
