Three days after arriving in the province, Festus went up from Caesarea to Jerusalem, 2 where the chief priests and the Jewish leaders appeared before him and presented the charges against Paul. 3 They requested Festus, as a favor to them, to have Paul transferred to Jerusalem, for they were preparing an ambush to kill him along the way. 4 Festus answered, “Paul is being held at Caesarea, and I myself am going there soon. 5 Let some of your leaders come with me, and if the man has done anything wrong, they can press charges against him there.” Acts 25:1-5
The Jewish leaders just would not let this issue die. They were determined to put Paul to death. Some of their people were even going to ambush him. Did they think they were doing God’s work? Did they think they were doing Him a favor by wanting to kill Paul?
Fortunately God was orchestrating events so that Paul would continue his mission of preaching and teaching the Gospel around the world.
We do not know much about the forces of evil that are around us. The Bible says that “we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12)
I think if we saw into the “spirit world,” we would be blown away by all the battles being waged on our behalf.
Rest assured that the angels of heaven and the Holy Spirit Himself are fighting for us. We still need to be armed with the Word of God (the Sword of the Spirit) and immerse ourselves in Him, but He’s fighting for us.
