Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name. John 2:23

Many people saw the signs Jesus was performing in person and by word of mouth. Great things always get a enthusiastic and encouraging following. It’s the same with organizations, companies, and charities. Famed marketing expert Seth Godin has written entire books about the “remarkableness” of a product or organization. In other words, if people are making remarks about something, the idea, organization, or product will spread. People through the centuries have wanted to follow and “get behind” great people and large movements.

The key part of this verse is that people not only saw but they acted upon what they saw.

They believed.

What he was doing was something people were talking about and spreading.

As we’ll see in the coming chapters, the Jewish leaders were also remarking about Jesus and rarely were those remarks kind. Those kinds of remarks, however, speak more about the person giving them than they do about the person being talked about. People are talking about you. So, the question is, what are they saying?
