22 In addition, we are sending with them our brother who has often proved to us in many ways that he is zealous, and now even more so because of his great confidence in you. 23 As for Titus, he is my partner and co-worker among you; as for our brothers, they are representatives of the churches and an honor to Christ. 24 Therefore show these men the proof of your love and the reason for our pride in you, so that the churches can see it. 2 Corinthians 8:22-24
Paul believed that the Corinthians could be a kind of role model for other churches despite its moral and ethical problems. They were like Big Brothers or Big Sisters to other churches. It’s certainly an interesting relationship to have between churches. I know denominations sort of have that relationship within their ranks.
One of the great benefits of “parachurch” organizations is their ability to bring members of very diverse denominations together for one purpose. Whether it’s to feed the hungry, smuggle Bibles into restrictive countries, provide water wells for landlocked and desert countries, or doing orphan work, these ministries do the church a great favor.
Probably everybody reading this gives to such a parachurch ministry. As those organizations focus on one or two key areas, pray for the strength and wisdom to raise more funds, send more people, and reach more souls for Christ. Pray for the organization you give to, then let them know you’ve done that.
