The Eyes Have It

“Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips.”
“Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”
“Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways,
and the way of peace they do not know.”
“There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Romans 3:13-18

Paul is still quoting the Old Testament here and amplifying the previous passage that no one who does good. From the words to the deeds, they do not know the “way of peace.”

Think of that as it relates to world events. In theory the entire United Nations was founded to promote peace but in many instances, they ignore the truly bad guys and even commit atrocities themselves, which proves the Old Testament’s point! Even though they’re supposed to promote peace, peace is far from them despite the billions of dollars that gets thrown their way.

The last verse summarizes the matter: “there is no fear of God in their eyes.”

Today as you observe people, look deep into their eyes. What do you see? It might be a very worthwhile exercise for us as we go through our routines. It might be a very troubling exercise as well as we begin to see that many do not have the fear of God in their lives or in their eyes.
