6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 1 Corinthians 2:6-8
The people who crucified Christ thought they were doing God a favor. They didn’t realize that they were part of an eternal plan, conceived from the foundations of the world. They were central characters in it.
The wisdom of the age at the time was that they should do exactly what they did. After all, they were protecting God’s name from blasphemy. Of course, the wisdom of the age was wrong.
This brings us to an important point. If the entire culture says it’s okay to do something, and God has shown you it’s immoral, it’s best to stay with the truth. You may get laughed at, ridiculed, and pressured, but it’s still the right thing to do. It won’t always be easy and may require sacrifice, but the right thing to do is always the right thing to do.
