4 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 2 Peter 3:14
The “this” Peter is referring to is the new heaven and new earth. We’re not there yet, so we have this life to live. Unfortunately, purity and godliness aren’t taught much anymore. Both are daily pursuits. We can’t rest on what happened at the altar back in the day, as wonderful as that was.
As I’ve said many many times, the Holy Spirit helps us in our pursuit of holiness, that is, if we let him. Why wouldn’t we let Him? Sin and disobedience in your life can be a hindrance. Bitterness. Anger. Unforgiveness. Guilt. Unconfessed sin. They all can be factors. Otherwise, that pursuit is an exercise in futility.
What we don’t seem to fully understand is that God the Holy Spirit is waiting for us to call upon Him in that pursuit. In fact, He’s constantly pursuing us!
