Jesus went on to say, “In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.”
At this, some of his disciples said to one another, “What does he mean by saying, In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me, and Because I am going to the Father?” They kept asking, “What does he mean by a little while? We don’t understand what he is saying.” John 16:16-18
In this verse Jesus foretold of his death and resurrection. Of course it’s what we would expect His disciples to say, not because they were dense? We would expect them to say this because it’s what we would have said in the same circumstances. He had been hinting about dying previously but “the after a little while you will see me” statement was new and probably confused them. For us, though, it’s a matter of acknowledging what we’ve known all along, but it was a radical concept for the disciples.
The resurrection in history was a revolutionary event for the religious world.
Talk to Muslims today and they’ll say Jesus is alive and will return. They disagree with us about how he was raised from the dead but they admit he’s alive.
As you go through your day today realize that the Savior we worship is very much alive because of a resurrection event that changed the course of history.
