perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:4-5
In this character-building chain of life events, we go from suffering to perseverance to character and end at hope. Along the way there are sleepless nights, faith-questioning moments, and a lot of hand wringing over what you did, could have done differently, or what you are doing to deserve what you’re going through. You press through somehow, build character along the way, and fortunately, you end at hope.
The hope we have compels us to go forward. Just when it seems we can take it no longer, we go to bed and are faced with a fresh new start the next day. As days blend into weeks and weeks into months, we realize that what we had just been through is history. It’s an each day, everyday battle it seems but but the hope is in fact the Light at the end of the tunnel. Pretty soon we are aware that we are that much closer to eternity, the ultimate Hope of our suffering.
So, my dear friends, keep pressing on. Keep going forward. The goal – our Hope – is within reaching distance and is well worth the wait and suffering.
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 2 Corinthians 4:17
