Telling It Like IT Is

9 Those who surround me proudly rear their heads;
may the mischief of their lips engulf them.
10 May burning coals fall on them;
may they be thrown into the fire,
into miry pits, never to rise.
11 May slanderers not be established in the land;
may disaster hunt down the violent. Psalm 140:9-11

You have to love David! He wrote what was on his heart, no matter how rough it sounded. People have analyzed texts like this and tried to explain away what he meant.

I think it’s simpler than people make it.

David was angry and wanted bad things to happen to his enemies, those who were trying to kill him! After all, haven’t we all had those thoughts and feelings at one time or another – or worse?

It’s never bad to have those kinds of emotions when dealing with people. Obviously we cannot act on those feelings or recommend others act on our feelings. But we can certainly lift these feelings and passions to God. He knows about them anyhow. He knows the situations surrounding those feelings. And He knows how to deal with it. Go ahead, pour out your heart to God. It’s the right thing to do.
