11 The Lord announces the word,
and the women who proclaim it are a mighty throng:
12 “Kings and armies flee in haste;
the women at home divide the plunder.
13 Even while you sleep among the sheep pens,
the wings of my dove are sheathed with silver,
its feathers with shining gold.”
14 When the Almighty scattered the kings in the land,
it was like snow fallen on Mount Zalmon. Psalm 68:11-14
As Mark Twain once asked, “What would we be without women?” “Scarce, my friend, mighty scarce.”
Throughout the Old and New Testaments, women have played key roles in leadership, servanthood, and in everyday life. Jesus Himself elevated women far above what the existing culture had placed them. From His birth – literally – to his death and even at the tomb, women were present. Most in the society would have left out the details of women being in the picture. The Bible, however, reveres them.
Most Bible School students have heard of the book called, “From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya.” It gives an overview of missions throughout the ages. Women, and in particular single women, have played a significant role in advancing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Gentlemen, thank the women in your life today. Buy them cards and flowers, or just send them notes. For most, chocolate works too.
Ladies, thank you.
