39 He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night.
40 They asked, and he brought them quail; he fed them well with the bread of heaven.
41 He opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a river in the desert.
42 For he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham.
43 He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy;
44 he gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for—
45 that they might keep his precepts and observe his laws. Psalm 105:39-45
For forty years the Israelites wandered in the wilderness. They were led clearly by the Lord. They ate. They drank. They complained. And they walked a lot.
The Levites, Joshua, Caleb, and those under 20 years of age were able to enter into the Promised Land. Why weren’t the older generation allowed?
“because they have not wholly followed Me” Numbers 32:11
There was only a remnant of Israelites that were allowed to enter. Others got them to them to that point and cared for them as they grew up. Essentially they got something for nothing. They didn’t necessarily deserve the Promised Land but they bore the fruits of what others had labored for.
There are, of course, similarities to what Christ has done for us.
- We certainly didn’t deserve the grace that was extended toward us.
- Christ sacrificed so that we could enter into His Promised Land.
- He brought us into that Promised Land with rejoicing.
It’s time today to reflect a bit on our salvation.
- What does it mean?
- What has it meant?
- How would your life have changed if Christ hadn’t come into your life?
