A Family Blessing

41 Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. Luke 2:41

This single verse covers Jesus’ life from birth until he was 12. Presumably he went with his parents to the Festival of the Passover. Even though it’d be fun to know what Jesus was like growing up, there are good reasons why it wasn’t recorded. First of all, let’s face it, he was the easiest kid to bring up. Obedient. Helpful. Best sibling ever. Unselfish. Polite. Gentle. Everything you wanted your kids to be. Still, many of these were learned skills because the Bible says he grew in wisdom and stature (Luke 2:52). Secondly, we know how he “turned out” so there was no need to comment on the in-between years.

In the week between Christmas and New Years we get a chance to think much more about family and friends because we’ve probably seen quite a bit of them. For some, you are reconnecting after months or years of absence. For others, they are only a phone call away. As you probably already do, pray a special blessing over your family. They will appreciate it if they knew you were doing that.

Text, email, or call them….just because.
