A Gift to the King

Because of your temple at Jerusalem kings will bring you gifts. Psalm 68:29

Throughout the ages, Kings were not known for the gifts they bore unless 1) they were defeated in battle or 2) they wanted to make peace before war broke out. They certainly never gave gifts to their subjects, but only to other rulers.

Quite possibly this verse is a prophetic reference to the New Jerusalem written about in Revelations 21:22-24

I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.

What kind of gift could a king ever give to God Almighty? What would a present worthy of the King of Kings look like? What kinds of gifts could we, his subjects, bring? Thinking through this is important because it involves our everyday life and how we spend our time and energy.

So, I’ll open it up, what is it we can bring to the King of Kings that is worthy of the King of Kings?
