A Leisurely Walk

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night. Psalms 1:1-2

As we begin walking through the Psalms, it’s important to understand one of the general themes throughout the book, namely, the Word of God. Psalm 1 sets the tone for the entire book and makes it clear that delighting and meditating on the Word of God is a very good thing.

As an example, yesterday as I concluded the Gospel of John I challenged you to read through the Book of John throughout this weekend, more than anything, as a way to put the cherry on top, so to speak. I’m nearly halfway there as I write this but the one theme that I’m seeing over and over in just those seven chapters is this: people came to Jesus. The masses came to hear Him speak. The leaders came to trap Him and lecture Him. The lame (and associated relatives) came to Him for healing. Relatives came for favors. They all came to him with different motives and “agendas.” It’s an obvious theme as you read more than a couple verses at a time, but I missed it when I walked through one verse at a time.

Don’t underestimate the power of the Word of God in your life.
