When a wicked man dies, his hope perishes; all he expected from his power comes to nothing. Proverbs 11:7
Perhaps you’ve met “powerful” people in your life. Could be a politician. Could be a famous leader or an entertainer.
What happens, though, when that person has breathed his final breath? The power he once had is gone (his underlings may try to carry on the legacy, but often that doesn’t work well). The power he had for good or bad is now gone. Vanished. Disappeared into thin air.
Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:14
A mist.
Fortunately, though, our Hope is much more than a mist or a fleeting vapor. Our Hope is steadier than the Rock of Gibraltar, and more sure than the sun rising tomorrow!
