The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to his mother. Proverbs 10:1
The tenth chapter of Proverbs is a series of contrasts, a common Hebrew style.
This verse contrasts a wise and foolish son, as well as the heart of the father and mother of that boy. Children have the tendency to sway the emotions of their parents much like a roller coaster. Great highs, significant lows. But the child who grows in wisdom will lessen that roller coaster ride for the parents. He or she may not do everything the parents request since they are free to do as they please. When the children are grown, there’s nothing the parents can do except pray for that child. And often prayer is an afterthought in the process.
If you haven’t done so already, incorporate prayer for your children, by name, into your prayers. Plead to God on their behalf.
