Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. John 17:3
The Gospel message is fairly simple, and spelled out in this verse: knowing God the Father and his son Jesus Christ. Obviously the nitty-gritty of living out what that means on a daily basis is more complicated, but actually gaining eternal life is straightforward.
We should not be surprised at such a simple Gospel message because the God of the Universe made it that way. He knew we couldn’t handle complications. And yet relatively few believe.
Some say it can’t be that easy, which is an understandable argument. How can eternal life be so easy to obtain? We like complicated things so it must be complicated!
Some say it’s too narrow, and they too are correct. It a very narrow message, and even the Gospel writers note that (Matthew 7, Luke 14, and not a Gospel writer Isaiah 35:8).
And yet it was this same Gospel message that revolutionized the world.
Hallelujah for the narrow, easy message of the Gospel of Christ!
