Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. Proverbs 7:3
Did your mother ever tie a string around your finger so you wouldn’t forget something? And what happened? You knew you were supposed to remember something but you just didn’t remember. So then, she wrote a note. Perhaps you write notes to remind yourself even now. A billion dollar industry was created so that we could keep track of things, our calendars, reminders, contacts, To Do lists, etc.
But the writer of Proverbs catches the essence of this idea. If you write it on your heart, it will be with you forever. It’s like character and integrity. You don’t have to look at your Blackberry to remind you to be honest. You just are.
Every once in a while, it’s good to take stock of life lessons you’ve learned over the years. Perhaps you already do this in a journal. I have little things that remind me of where I’ve been and where I’m going. If you have those things, today’s a good day to spend a few minutes in reflection. What has God brought you through? What did you learn from it all?
