5 Part your heavens, Lord, and come down;
touch the mountains, so that they smoke.
6 Send forth lightning and scatter the enemy;
shoot your arrows and rout them.
7 Reach down your hand from on high;
deliver me and rescue me
from the mighty waters,
from the hands of foreigners
8 whose mouths are full of lies,
whose right hands are deceitful. Psalm 144:5-8
The imagery of these verses is vivid. David needed a miracle – or perhaps a series of miraculous events – because of the situation he was in. He knew that the Lord could command things to happen and they would happen. He could do it, but would He?
Throughout the psalms, David prayed these kinds of prayers, which are similar to the prayers we pray when we’re in confusing and harmful situations. David could do that because he had a thriving relationship with the Lord.
We have that kind of access to the Father as well. I don’t think we can fully appreciate how easy it is for us to “access” the Father now.
Journalists and dignitaries have limited access to royalty and high profile national leaders. while they are in the presence of these VIPs, they are on their best behavior, doing their best not to offend or make themselves look bad. Ordinary people, like you and me, would be fortunate if we met one of these leaders once or twice in our entire lifetime.
But an audience with the King of the Universe? We have unlimited access to share what’s on our heart and mind, and to lay it all out there for Him. To share everything or nothing, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that we come to Him. He wants us to have a relationship with Him much more than we know.
