All About The Messiah

(John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) John 1:15

Again we find John the Baptist pointing to the Messiah. It was all about the Messiah. At another point, he stated, “he must increase; I must decrease.”

In John’s proclamation here he recognizes the eternality of Christ (because he was before me), the humanity of Christ (he who comes after me), and of course the supremacy of Christ (he surpassed me).

In our busyness we often lose focus. Sadly, there are a thousand things more important than the supremacy of Christ in our lives, though we’re not quick to admit it. For John, it was never about him, as important as he was in Scripture to prepare us for Christ.

He always pointed to the Messiah.
