I [wisdom] was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began. Proverbs 8:23
We see over and over again that God wants us to grasp everything it takes to become and remain wise. Here, in this verse, God is stating that there is an immortal quality about wisdom because of its beginnings. Throughout history, God – the author of Wisdom – has been wisely intervening where He has seen fit. We look at the turmoil and strife in the world, but that One thing that has remained steady is God.
It begs a fair question: if God is so wise, why are we in such a terrible state? Couldn’t He snap His fingers, so to speak, and make it all better. Yes, but in God’s matchless wisdom, He gave us all free choice. As such, we chose to rebel against God by thinking and acting we had all the answers (and publicly stating that we didn’t need God). Clearly we don’t. If we did have all the answers, there wouldn’t be any hunger, violence, wars, etc etc etc. We’d be living in peaceful harmony without worries or cares. But sadly, we aren’t.
Not yet.
But until that day, we should be imploring the God of wisdom to bless us with that which “is more precious than rubies.” Proverbs 8:11
