Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. Psalm 86:11
What does an “undivided heart” look like? We’ve known people who were so focused on a task that they missed meals, shunned rest, and wouldn’t stop until they were finished. An undivided heart is about intensity and extreme focus. Too often, though, we lean towards double-minded thinking. Yes, we’re focused on one thing, but that bright shiny object just appeared and needs our attention. Then a third thing appears. Before we know it, we have a hard time remembering what our original object of focus was.
The hymn writer said it best, “Prone to wander, Lord I feel it. Prone to leave the God I love.”
This is a very practical prayer. We need guidance and pinpoint focus.
