Angels and Scripture

11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. Psalm 91:11

Satan tried to use these two verses against Jesus during the temptation in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11).

It didn’t work because Jesus knew the Word of God inside and out (He wrote it), he knew the heart of God, and He knew what Satan was trying to do.

I’ve been asked by a few people if I believe everyone has a “guardian angel.” These verses seem to lightly support such a notion. I don’t believe that everyone has a guardian angel because then you’d have to explain why those same angels let bad things happen to good Christian people. Did they fail if the people weren’t protected?

These verses are part of a series of prophetic verses concerning Christ. They pointed to the Messiah long before He came to earth.

Jesus came to the wilderness prepared and armed with the Scripture. If he needed to memorize the Word of God, we would be wise to begin a journey doing just that.
