Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
Are you at peace when you pray? Do you find yourself anxious and easily distracted? You’re not alone. As a society we are constantly being filled with videos and text and visuals that overload our senses. We are, as some authors have noted, being entertained to death.
This was apparent to me many years ago when I went to a minor league baseball game. In between innings, there was activities going on besides what was happening on the field. Games, mascots, songs, everything except what the players on the field were doing to warm up for the inning.
Fast forward to today and we see hours spent watching mindless videos during “down” time. Video after video and before you know it, two hours are spent.
So, originally I asked if you were at peace. It’s hard but certainly not impossible to be at peace. We just have to make it a point to deprogram once in a while and abstain from internet and TV activity. The more we are able to break free, I suspect, the more at peace we’ll be with a lot of things in life. Most importantly, we can then focus on the important things.
