Are You Listening?

1 I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me.
2 When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted. -Psalm 77:1

Think of the last time you were in personal distress. It could be financial, career, medical, or otherwise. Your back was up against the wall. Maybe you “freaked” out. Maybe you calmly assessed the situation and made a game plan. People react very differently in emergency situations.

In the text we do not know how much distress Asaph was in when he wrote this. He does give us a small window into his world.

Crying out to God cannot be hyped or fake. It has to be genuine. As you probably noted before, what you do in stressful situations never is hyped or fake. What you do comes naturally.

We come to Him with a cry when we are desperate.

We come to Him when all our other options have been used or tried.

But the important thing is that we come to Him.

Out of need or desperation, it does not matter.

What matters is that we come to Him, expectantly and willingly.
