3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. Titus 3:3
Paul described the life many of us lived before Christ to a tee. We were all of that and then some. It’s important that we recognize and acknowledge that before we get to the good stuff. If we didn’t have this part of our lives, we would never fully understand the other half of the equation. In fact, I don’t think we can fully grasp how utterly sinful we humans can be. It’s easy to point fingers at those in the world who commit evil and heinous acts. They’re just doing what their father – Satan – tells them. Yes, they may be a level or two removed from the “average” sinner, but the tendencies to sin greater and greater still exist in all of us. It’s dangerous to think, “Well, I could never do that,” whatever vile act “that” is.
My point is, we need to see where we came from to appreciate where we went to. It also gives us perspective into other people’s lives.
Thank the Lord for the life you once lived in order to better appreciate the new life He gives us. Thank Him that we do not need to return to those ways, and that with His power and strength, we can lead a new life in Christ.
