30 With my mouth I will greatly extol the Lord;
in the great throng of worshipers I will praise him.
31 For he stands at the right hand of the needy,
to save their lives from those who would condemn them. Psalm 109:30-31
In these verses, David told us where the Lord stands in regard to the needy. It’s no secret that God is a great defender of foreigners, widows, and orphans. Those are three areas that we should be especially careful in handling. All three would be considered needy. More than anything, though, they rarely have lot of people defending their cause in the world. Those classes of people are easy to overlook.
On a related side note: I understand the controversy in the United States and most of Europe about the mass migration of largely undocumented refugees. Also, the debate between legal and illegal immigrants pouring in through the southern border certainly has average people discussing the issue on a daily basis. That obviously muddies the water about the term “foreigners” in this context.
Still, though, he stands at the right hand of the needy. It’s probably where we should be standing too. That will mean different things to different people depending on where you are in your walk with Him.
