I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.
I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side. Psalm 3:5-6
What price would you pay for peaceful rest? We’ve all had sleepless nights, perhaps because of the next day’s worries or maybe somebody went missing. It’s a terrible state to be in, especially for days or weeks or even months on end.
As the New Year approaches, it seems like there are a lot of things happening in the world that could keep us up late at night: economy, job, money, family, decay in society, and on and on.
Like the Psalmist writes: I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. What a blissful assurance we have.
We would do well to commit this to memory and to recite it as we lay our head to rest each night. Having God’s truth swirling around in our heads like this can only lead to good things.
