16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
17 Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position.
2 Peter 3:16-17
Peter closes his letter by warning the persecuted believers again not to seek after the errant preachers. They distort and abuse the Scriptures. Yes, they will be held accountable for their teachings but they’re not opposed to bringing down as many as they can with them.
Combating against these lawless men and women is easy: stay in the word of God and don’t be afraid to question and challenge doctrine that doesn’t sound quite right. The errant preachers could easily be offended by the challenge, but a Godly teacher will welcome the chance to clarify the point.
Stay close to God, no matter what you do, Brothers and Sisters.
