Behaving Decently

Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Romans 13:13

Paul further cautions us in more detail about our way of life as we await Christ’s return. He realizes the temptations we are under and our tendency to be complacent. “Behaving decently” as he starts out is over 80% of the battle. When we get bored with life is when we have a tendency to rationalize other more worldly behaviors. The list Paul provides us with is small but covers a multitude of possible sins.

As Believers, we look at these sins and think, “how could I possibly descend into these areas when I’m surrounded my so much truth?” But we also see Christian leaders all around us falling prey to these very sins. Our conclusion must then be, “if it can happen to them and they’re in a much more public role (with much more to “lose”), it can certainly happen to me.”

Therefore, it is imperative that we call out to Christ regularly. He knows our tendencies; He knows our thoughts. And He certainly knows our needs.
