He who winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin. Proverbs 10:10
This is the second verse out of three that mentions a chattering fool coming to ruin. I don’t fancy myself an eloquent or prolific talker but I do put my foot in my mouth on more occasions than I care to admit. Most of the time I realize almost seconds after I utter it, and I’ve learned that apologizing close to the offense is much better than waiting for hours, days, weeks, or even years to apologize.
Ralph Cramden of the Honeymooners frequently called his mother-in-law a “blabbermouth,” which is the height of irony since his character was never quiet or without hurtful comments.
How are you at keeping things confidential? Do you ever hear yourself saying, “you didn’t hear this from me.” I wish I was totally innocent against that charge, but I’m not. Whether it’s acceptance or wanting to be liked or whatever the reason, I blab way too much in life. I’m working on it but in the meantime, “did you hear…”?
