11 Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” 12 But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him. Mark 3:11-12
At first glance, it looks like Jesus is telling the people not to tell others, but it’s the evil spirits He’s commanding. He wanted no part of their testimony good or bad. He didn’t need their help and He commanded them to keep silent.
This is an area of the “spirit world” that we don’t fully understand. They knew Him and He knew them, but others were seemingly oblivious to what was going on. It wasn’t their fault.
The spirit world is real even though we don’t see it. We do, however, see its effects and influence on the world. The secular even speak about the “spirit of the age.”
Let’s pray against the spirit of the age since it seems to be so prevalent today.
Lord,
We recognize that the spirit of the age is all around us, in our songs, media, movies, business culture, everything. We come against that spirit that would harm our children.
Lately, there’s been a lot of talk about this evil in our world called pedophilia. We come against those who would harm children no matter what country they come from or where they are going or even if they come and go from city to city. We come against the spirit that would place no value on human life, from the womb to those who would snatch children and adults for their own personal gain. Break those chains of darkness. We rebuke the hatred and evil that we see and hear about. We come against that spirit in the name of Jesus.
We know there are other similar spirits in our world. Would you bring them to mind this week as we go through our week. Drop us to our knees to pray against these evils. We know you are more powerful than the worst of those spirits. You are more powerful to break through this heinous mess and restore it, but it only comes through prayer, so remind us to pray often this week.
In Jesus’ name.
