Buzz

The Jews who heard these words were again divided. Many of them said, “He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?”

But others said, “These are not the sayings of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?” John 10:19-21

Today we would say that Jesus generated a whole lot of buzz when he moved about.

Intentionally.

He knew the effects his words would have on people and how they would be divided.

He stirred the pot a bit and moved on.

Why? He did it for any number of reasons but one that comes to mind is that if they were still talking about Him after he walked away, they were also analyzing what he had said. What he said was more important than the controversy he caused.

Consider how his controversial words still cause people to talk about Him long after He’s left the Earth physically. Interesting side note is how often He’s misquoted or how often people attribute words He never said (“family that prays together stays together” and “God helps those who help themselves” are cliches and Jesus never said them). But even in those contexts, He and His Words are still being talked about.

What a Divine Plan!
