At Wit’s End

Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck.
I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold.
I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. Psalm 69:1-2

We’ve all been to this place. We’ve been to the place where we feel like we’re drowning and can’t hold on for even one more minute.

Finances. Relationships. Work. Bosses. Inlaws. Kids. Loneliness. Bills. Normal, everyday stresses.

Some reading this may in the midst of these kinds of situations right now.

You don’t know where to turn or what to do. Your prayers don’t seem to go higher than the ceiling. Sleep, chocolate, or binge eating doesn’t help. No one around you seems to understand. No one seems to care.

In fact, you’re probably thinking ‘no one knows what I’m going through!’ Well, King David went through it. Read those verses again. He’s in big trouble. He cannot take it any longer. He is, as they say, at his wit’s end.

Brothers and Sisters, hang on. I know you feel like you’re alone, but you aren’t. We ALL go through these periods. We’d be lying if we say we didn’t. Keep praying. Keep seeking the Lord’s strength. It’s what got you this far, and He’s not letting you go. Confide in someone what you’re struggling with. There are people in your circle who do care about you. They may lift you up as you have lifted them up.

Thunders with a Mighty Voice

33 to him who rides across the highest heavens, the ancient heavens, who thunders with mighty voice.
34 Proclaim the power of God, whose majesty is over Israel, whose power is in the heavens.
35 You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people.

Praise be to God! Psalm 68:33-35

When I was in the Air Force flying around in a non-soundproof 707, the joke was, “I hope the Lord doesn’t return when we’re flying because we’d never hear the trumpet or His call!” Needless to say, the noise was deafening.

The same God who holds the universe – the UNIVERSE – in the palm of His hand, thunders with a mighty voice. When He speaks we will all know Who is speaking. There will be no mistaking what the noise is.

Many in the secular world view God as an old, feeble grandfather figure. I believe they try to make Him out to be an incredibly inferior being so that by inference they are somehow elevated. How mistaken they are!

This “old, feeble grandfather figure” will display His majesty so that no one mistakes Him for anything but Majestic. He will show His power like none they’ve ever seen.

I trust you are able to be encouraged by these words. What we see here on earth is very temporary, but because we’re in the midst of it every day, it seems like it will last forever.

Be encouraged, for the Lord is with you and will be your strength throughout these tumultuous times.

In Due Time

Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth, sing praise to the Lord, Psalm 68:32

If you’ve ever just stopped and wondered how it is all going to work out in the end, relax. It’s not your worry. It’s not your concern. God is in control and knows what He is doing. Really, He does!

You can point to scores of leaders around the world and almost none of them seem to fear God, so how will they ‘sing praise to the Lord?’ In due time, they will.

Kingdoms come and kingdoms go. Leaders come and go. Kings come and go. Bullies, terrorists, murderers, the greedy, the vile, and sexually immoral all come and go. It’s a fact we have to accept while we’re here. But one day, one day they will bow their knees and confess that Jesus is Lord. We want it to come sooner but we also know “He’s got the Whole World in His Hands.”

I know it seems like a “cop out” to just say, “wait until the Lord returns” but it’s entirely true. We do not like what we see when people get away with evil and treacherous acts. Is there no justice? When will the evil leave us alone?

Unfortunately we will always have evil among us while we live in the body. It’s not comforting, but it’s the truth.

Justice will one day be served. Perfect, righteous justice.

31 Envoys will come from Egypt; Cush will submit herself to God. Psalm 68:31

Many believe Cush to be modern day Sudan or Ethiopia. It was generally thought to be land on either or both sides of the Red Sea or the Upper Nile region. It’s important to know that because right now, those are countries with 95% Muslim populations. That area of the world, though, is in turmoil as I write this. Sudan has not been stable for a long time. Its leader, Omar al-Bashir is ruthless and cruel towards any Believers in the country. Egypt is in chaos. Saudi Arabia is at war with Yemen. It seems like the whole region is one huge powder keg. Of course, Israel is always in jeopardy from all of its neighbors.

So there will be peace in the region, but not without a lot of political and military upheaval first. One day all adherents to Islam will bow before God Almighty. So while it looks like a lost cause, Jesus Christ will one day reign supreme. One way or another all knees will bow. We only hope and pray it is because their hearts have changed.

Pray for that region. Pray for those few Believers who continue to take a stand against the sin and lawlessness of those lands. Pray for boldness.

Maranatha! (which means, O Lord, Come!)

Bullies on the Block

30 Rebuke the beast among the reeds, the herd of bulls among the calves of the nations.
Humbled, may the beast bring bars of silver. Scatter the nations who delight in war. Psalm 68:30

It’s apparent that bullies have been around since this was written (“herd of bulls among the calves of the nations”). Many are now trying to crack down on them in the schools because they think it’s a rather new phenomenon.

Peoples can be bullies and so can leaders. Nations do it at the behest of its power-hungry leaders. Eventually, though, those bullies lose their edge and are humiliated. Leaders and their nations go that way as well though they don’t think it will ever happen.

The biggest bully “on the block” these days is ISIS, that ruthless and violent group of Islamic terrorists. They are killing, maiming, raping, kidnapping, and destroying with impunity, that is, apparent impunity. Until nations and militaries rise against them en masse, they will continue their murderous ways unabated. But even so, their power is very fleeting. Their treacherous bullying tactics are working…for now. Very soon many of them will be face to face with God Almighty. There will be no fanfare, celebrations, or 72 virgins awaiting them as the Koran tells hem. There will only be an eternity of hell, death, and punishment.

In the mean time, though, it’s important for those of us in the West to stand with those Believers who are losing their lives at the swords of Isis. They need our prayers and any support we can give them. They are on the “front lines” of Christianity, and are not backing down. Praise God for those who hear the clear call of God on their lives, and are willing to risk it all for His sake!
