Cherishing Sin

If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. Psalm 66:18

In Psalm 51:10 David said, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” This is what he’s talking about, having a clean heart when coming to Him to ask for things. It’s actually an interesting concept to “cherish sin”, isn’t it?

Why would we cherish sin? To hide it from Him perhaps. To not want to admit we have that sin perhaps?

If we cherish sin we must obviously like it.
If we like it we’re probably not going to get rid of it.
If we don’t get rid of it, it will hinder our relationship with Christ and with others.

There really is no “upside” to cherishing sin except that it appeals to our selfish and secretive nature.

As noted, there is a lot of downside to it.

The longer we hold on to that sin, the harder it becomes to confess and get rid of it.
