The Church Steps Up to the Plate

27 During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. 28 One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.) 29 The disciples, as each one was able, decided to provide help for the brothers and sisters living in Judea. 30 This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul. Acts 11:27-30

Most of the time in our churches, parishioners give generously to causes outside the church. Part of the generosity is a direct result of the presentation, but most of it can be attributed to the Holy Spirit moving on people to give.

In this passage we saw that the Holy Spirit prompted Believers to help their fellow Believers in Judea. That’s the way the Church should operate. Too often it gets a bad reputation because of the things we’re against. Very few people hear about the sacrifices parishioners make to help Believers in other parts of the country. That’s probably how it should be lest we run the risk of bragging about things that should be silent.

Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. Matthew 6:1

Keep making those sacrifices and generous gifts when Godly missionaries and guest speakers visit your church. The Holy Spirit will lay it on your heart how you should give.
