But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.” He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it. John 12:4-6

Judas is always an interesting study on the human condition. We have no respect for the man, of course, and yet we all seem to have a little bit of him in us. Not the full dose, mind you, but just enough to make us cringe.

Most seriously wrong sins do not begin with the blatant sin. For instance, I suspect very few set out to murder. For murder it’s the anger and rage that have been building up for a while. These raw emotions, having gone unchecked, lead to very serious violent acts. Granted, this is an extreme example but it proves a point.

Or to put it another way, we compromise. We compromise on the things that no one notices only to find out that those unchecked sins can get us into serious trouble.

All that to say this, keep short accounts with God. He sees what we do anyways so why not just admit it, especially in the smaller areas of life?
