When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan. Proverbs 29:2
Consider for a moment heaven.
We know little about what will go on in heaven but it will be far different than what we know is happening on Earth today. We know that is true because we know the Creator is righteous and just. Even the best of the best of the leaders in the world today cannot compare with what awaits us “on the other side.” Still, though, until that day comes, we must occupy and live under the authorities over us.
Many of our leaders are “middle of the road” in terms of how they rule over people. The more freedoms we have as a people, the more the people are able to rejoice. Interestingly enough, in this verse, when “the people groan” in today’s vernacular, they do what they can to move away from the wicked’s rule. It’s not always easy, and the rich are able to be more mobile, but we “groan” in different ways.
Pray for your leaders at the Federal, State, and Local levels.
Pray that they will govern wisely.
Pray that they will make decisions that don’t put unnecessary burdens on the backs of the people who put them in office.
