Daring to Name the Name

Now to him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience that comes from faith – to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen. Romans 16:25-27

In the final doxology in Romans, Paul makes it clear what the mystery of the Gospel is: obedience through faith in Jesus Christ for the Jews and Gentiles. The Gospel and faith in Jesus Christ is not complicated. In fact, it’s embarrassingly simple to those who will believe it.

This Christmas season, we should remember the basic Gospel story: mankind was sinful and needed a savior. That savior came to earth as a baby born to a virgin. He lived for 33 years, died a horrendous death, and was raised from the dead. Belief in the central character of that story – Jesus Christ – will divide homes, communities, and nations.

Do not shy away from naming this man as the central figure in your life. Be bold and be courageous for the Lord your God is with you.

To the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ. Amen!
