The one who guards a fig tree will eat its fruit, and whoever protects their master will be honored. Proverbs 27:18
A few years ago a man in Europe was arrested because he defaced a piece of “art” that defamed God in some way. The details of the incident are sketchy but why He did what He did was apparent: someone had defiled the Name of God. Obviously the “artist” got the reaction he wanted and played the victim perfectly.
Does God need to be defended? I know, it seems like a silly question but one that we ask ourselves at times.
Before I go further, this is what I know: God can and does take care of Himself because, well, He’s God.
Having said that, though, I believe there are times that we can defend God with our words and actions. In fact, I daresay we could do it daily if we desired because there are times that His name is taken in vain without giving it a second thought.
When’s the last time you spoke up and said something as innocent as, “I’d rather you not talk about my Lord like that.” That’s it. Nothing to be huffy puffy about. No need for condescension. Just a simple statement of defense. You will be glad you did it.
Perhaps the question isn’t, “does God need to be defended” but “does God honor you for sticking up for Him?”
If this verse is any indication, yes, I think He does.
