Ill-gotten treasures are of no value, but righteousness delivers from death. Proverbs 10:2
It’s easy to look at those who get wealthy by illegal means and think “that must be the life!” But is it really? Often, they spend a significant portion of that wealth trying to protect what they have so they don’t lose it. In essence, they’re not able to enjoy the good life, the things that matter. Sure, they have the nice houses and cars and clothes, but they often are not satisfied. Some are but many aren’t. They’re always searching, seeking that bigger thrill or the higher high.
Contrast that with those of us who have “the righteousness of Christ.” Some of us are wealthy, many not so wealthy. Some are downright poor. Hopefully we are content on being redeemed and being “delivered over from death.”
It’s a wise person who can be content with that.
