34 They did not destroy the peoples as the Lord had commanded them,
35 but they mingled with the nations and adopted their customs.
36 They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them.
37 They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to false gods.
38 They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood.
39 They defiled themselves by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted themselves. Psalm 107:34-39
Yesterday we discussed the burning need to take a strong stance against the evils of this world. It’s not an easy task and requires a lot of prayer and leading from God.
The children of God, however, did quite the opposite. While Phinehas took a stance against one action that one man took, the Israelites as a people adopted the practices of their enemies. They were not only friendly to them but adopted their ways, including child sacrifice and prostitution.
How could this happen?
Little by little the people thought a little bit of compromise here and a little bit there would be a good thing. Before you know it, it’s full blown idol worship.
In our day, the incremental deeds of the sexual revolution has gone full circle.
In the 1960s radical feminism began to erode the moral fiber of the West with it incremental teachings. It was blatant, in-your-face revolution that should have been laughed off the public scene, but was propagated by the minority of feminist who had the attention of the media and our educational institutions who could freely disseminate their teachings to young impressionable minds.
It began with the phrase “if it feel good, do it.”
Then came Gloria Steinem’s “Women need men like a fish needs a bicycle” devaluation of marriage and men.
Then dozens of television shows that depicted men and women sleeping around with no care for disease, morality, or who they hurt.
The explicit sexual media (magazines, television, and now the internet) has only sped up the decline.
And over the last 20 years the normalization of homosexual behavior was prevalent in the movies, on television, and in the classrooms (“Heather Has Two Mommies”) has led us to where we are now with the seemingly bizarre transgender bathrooms “issues”.
It took the better part of fifty years to accomplish but it’s started with the idea of free, uninhibited sex.
The descent into Gomorrah will only go faster from here. The progression is well on its way to full maturity.
So, how do we combat this now that it has fully matured? How does the Christian church go up against the onslaught of ideaology that flies in the face of its teachings?
Well, it goes back to yesterday’s devotional. It begins with one person taking a stand. And then another. And another.
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
